P1 Group assisting customers with R-22 phase-out

LENEXA, Kan. – P1 Group is responding to new OSHA regulations by providing customers with updated information on how to proactively convert and replace HVAC systems.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued a phase-out of the production and importation of ozone-depleting substances under the Clean Air Act. The act calls for the former industry-standard refrigerant R-22 to be phased-out. R-22 will not be produced anymore in the U.S. after Jan. 1, 2020.

P1's pipe shop completing unique panel fabrication job

LAWRENCE, Kan. – P1 Group‘s fabrication shop is taking on more panel fabrication work and recently landed a significant contract to build room pressure reference panels for a lab client.

These panels track the pressures in a room space versus a neutral space and/or an adjacent room’s space for the building automation system. This ensures that rooms hold their negative or positive pressures when doors are opened, fume hoods are used and heating/ cooling systems ramp up or slow down.

P1 Group named a 2017 Top 600 Specialty Contractor

P1 Group has been named a 2017 Top 600 Specialty Contractor by the Engineering News-Record (ENR). P1 Group was ranked 110th among all specialty contractors and also placed 38th on the “Top 50 Firms in Mechanical” list.

The ENR list combines 16 categories of specialty contractors and ranks them by annual revenue. The contractors listed had combined revenue of $113 billion in 2016, up 12% from $110 billion in 2016. The mechanical and electrical trades accounted for 49 percent of the total revenue.

P1 Group recognized in Aquatherm case study

LAWRENCE, Kan.  - Aquatherm Pipe has published a case study on a project at Berry Global, which was completed by P1 Group.

Berry’s Lawrence plant produces food-grade plastic cups and containers, operating 24/7 all year long. The plant uses an injection molding system and the steel piping that circulated cooling water was corroding, slowing the process down.

P1 Group awarded work at Wolf Creek Generating Station

BURLINGTON, Kan. – P1 Group has been awarded the Essential Service Water (ESW) / Containment Area Coolers (CAC) Replacement Project at Wolf Creek Generating Station.

The scope of the project will include prefabrication of piping assemblies prior to the refuel and the replacement of approximately 540 feet of ESW pipe. Additional work will include replacement of twelve cooling coils and eight associated manifold header pipes on the CAC units.

More efficient by going paperless

To reduce inefficiencies and utilize new technologies, P1 is replacing stacks of paper drawings at many project sites with electronic plan documents that can be viewed on tablets in the field.

P1 has also integrated our SharePoint project management system with Bluebeam, a PDF solution that is used by construction, architecture and engineering firms to mark up and edit electronic documents. This allows P1 to provide up-to-date project information to the project foremen, at their fingertips.

P1 Group’s flexibility helps Magna continue production through project

P1 Group’s millwright project at Magna Excelsior Springs involved the demolition of three existing storage and retrieval systems and replacing them with new structures. The towers weighed 9,000 pounds and each one had to be operating before the next system could be removed.

P1 provided flexible labor hours to work with Magna to provide efficient and cost saving concepts.

P1 Group’s medical gas solution for expanding hospital

P1 Group Inc. is completing the mechanical, plumbing and sheet metal work for the new Obstetrics and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) building at Olathe Medical Center.

The  “Umbilical Phase” of the project – when the new building’s medical gas system was connected to the old building – presented a challenge. P1 earned high praise for the team’s efforts to connect the system during night shifts to maintain operational status during business hours. This made the outage much shorter – lasting a few hours instead of days.

The Earth, Energy and Environment Center at KU

LAWRENCE, Kan. - Work is well underway at the new Earth, Energy & Environment Center at the University of Kansas.

P1 Group is completing the plumbing, electrical, sheet metal and telecommunications work. Adjacent to Lindley Hall, the EEEC Center will bring together geology and engineering faculty and students for energy and environmental research.

LENEXA, Kan. - The recent addition of Critical Environment Certification (CEC) services is allowing P1 Group, Inc., to better serve our healthcare and laboratory clients.

P1 Apprentice places first at District 4 competition

Chase Serrault, a P1 apprentice, won top honors in the HVAC portion of the UA District 4 contest earlier this month in St. Paul, Minn.

He is the first Local 441 apprentice and the first from Topeka Service to place first and move on to the International Contest, which will be held in August in Ann Arbor, Mich.

P1 Group apprentices win big at state competition

TOPEKA, Kan. - P1 Group apprentices won three of the four top spots last month at the state competition of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Apprenticeship Training of Kansas/Local 441.

The winning fifth year apprentices were Jeremy Alexander, Plumber; Kyle Babcock, Pipefitter; and Chase Serrault, HVAC-R. All three are eligible to compete at the District 4 competition on June 6-9 at Local 455 in St. Paul, Minn. Jeremy Alexander is unable to attend, however, so the second place winner will go in his place.

P1 Group Awarded Saguaro Distillation Facility Project

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Recently, Schultz Industrial awarded P1 Group with the Saguaro Distillation Facility Project in Henderson, Nevada. The facility produces distilled water utilizing steam generated by the power plant, which will supply distilled water for local businesses’ use.

The project scope consists of the installation process, utility piping, and valves that complete the project assembly to produce distilled water. Detailed design drawings were provided by engineering firm, Sargent & Lundy. The project is being assembled with carbon steel, stainless steel, HDPE, and EPDM pipe, distilling units, pumps, heat exchangers, engineered piping supports, and the steam accessories. The systems that are being installed by P1 Group consist of: steam, raw water makeup, cooling water, condenser water, instrument air, distilled water to tank farm, and reverse osmosis water.
