P1 Charity Bracket Challenge raises $1,100 for charity

LENEXA, Kan. - Mike Totta, the husband of P1 associate Cheri Totta, is the winner of the 2017 Charity Bracket Challenge. He will split the proceeds with his charity of choice.

Each year prior to March Madness, P1 Group associates, family and friends are invited to fill out an NCCA Tournament bracket for ten dollars. The winner receives half of the proceeds while the other half is matched by P1 and donated to the charity the winner chooses.

Ben Gannaway honored with P1 Group 2017 Virtue Award

LAWRENCE, Kan. - Ben Gannaway is the recipient of the 2017 Virtue Award, which is part of P1’s Commitment to Excellence award program. Ben is the Warehouse Operations Manager and works out of the Lawrence office.

Ben was nominated for the award by three fellow associates. Ben is described as being courteous and thoughtful. He works tirelessly to fulfill requests and answer questions. Ben is very patient with all associates and takes the time to teach others about the warehouse operations.

TOPEKA, Kan. – P1 Group is committed to helping customers improve heating and cooling efficiency and save money. Westar Energy has taken note and named P1 Group the 2016 Heat Pump Dealer North Region Leader.

To win the honor, P1 Group installed the most commercial heat pump tons in the area of Kansas covered by P1’s Lenexa, Topeka and Lawrence offices.

LENEXA, Kan. - Five P1 ammonia refrigeration technicians have been trained to respond to ammonia spills and other emergencies through the HAZWOPER (Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response) 40 Hour training developed by OSHA.

Dan Shoemaker, Dan Holloway, Jamar Jackson, Ricky Rohaus and Chad Moreland attended the training along with Lewis Ellington of Schreiber Foods, a P1 customer.

P1 participates in Halloween Candy Give-Back Program

LENEXA, Kan. – This year P1 Group proudly participated in Operation Gratitude’s Halloween Candy Give-Back Program, which encourages local communities to gather and donate leftover candy to send to deployed troops and first responders. Thanks to efforts of employees and two local schools, Wolf Creek Elementary and Leawood Elementary, P1 was able to send 23 boxes (and a whopping 500 pounds) of candy to the cause!

Annual Kevin Lane scholarship awarded

LENEXA, KS. – The annual Kevin Lane scholarship has been awarded for the second time to University of Kansas student, Patrick Canny. The scholarship is in honor of the late Kevin Lane, who worked as an electrical foreman at P1 Group for more than 27 years.

As a sophomore this year, Patrick recently visited P1 Group’s headquarters. He has made some big changes in his life since he stopped by last year. After working a summer internship at an aerospace engineering firm, he wondered if a degree in mechanical engineering was the right choice for him. A friend working in New York at a medical lab then inspired him to consider pursing computer science. A few programming classes later, Patrick decided that exploring a career in data science would give him the freedom to fully reach his potential.

P1 Charity Golf Tourney supports The Children’s SPOT

LENEXA, KS – The 13th annual P1 Group Charity Golf Tournament raised $11,594 for The Children’s SPOT (Speech Physical and Occupational Therapy) of Saint Luke’s Health System.

Dennis Chenowith, the retired Saint Luke’s Health System Director of Facilities and Construction, thanked the golfers when they gathered after the tournament, informing them that The Children’s SPOT offers early and intensive therapy to children with disabilities and developmental delays, helping them function successfully in life. He said Kansas City contractors, including P1 Group, and labor unions have donated millions to The Children’s SPOT over the years, enabling SPOT to offer services to families regardless of their ability to pay.

AMELIA ISLAND, Fla. – Tom Crumrine, Vice President at P1 Group, Inc., was invited to speak as a panelist at the 2016 Utility Working Conference & Vendor Technology Expo held by the American Nuclear Society (ANS).

The three day event is held annually in Amelia Island, Florida. It has grown since its inception in 1994 into a major industry gathering, with more than 750 utility industry professionals in attendance and 90-plus vendor exhibits. Conference attendees are primarily businesses and individuals involved with delivering utility services to the nuclear industry.

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Liz Ferguson is the recipient of the August 2016 PRIDE Award, which is a part of P1 Group’s Commitment to Excellence program. She is a Project Engineer who has worked out of the Las Vegas office for almost two years.

Whether she’s assisting project managers with their daily tasks or helping an Estimator get a bid out the door, her attention to detail is impeccable. P1 Group awarded MEP work at KU’s Earth, Energy & Environment Center

Lawrence, Kan. – P1 Group has been awarded the plumbing, electrical, sheet metal and telecommunications work for the new Earth, Energy & Environment Center at the University of Kansas.

Located adjacent to Lindley Hall, the EEE Center will bring together geology and engineering faculty and students for energy and environmental research. The two newly-constructed buildings of the EEE Center – Ritchie Hall and Slawson Hall – will connect via bridges to Lindley Hall and Learned Hall.

Ingram’s, a Kansas City business magazine, has ranked P1 Group 62nd on its 2016 list of the 100 Top Private Companies in the Kansas City region.

The list was published in Ingram’s June issue. To compile the list, Ingram’s ranked companies by 2015 revenues. P1 was ranked 62nd in 2015, 64th in 2014, 69th in 2013 and 73rd in 2012.

P1 ranks within top 25 on Book of Giants list

Contractor magazine’s annual Book of Giants has ranked P1 Group, Inc. 24th among the nation’s top 100 mechanical contractors.

P1 Group also made the list of ten largest mechanical contractors in the Midwest.
