There are few better causes than those that help and protect at-risk kids. P1 Group has supported The Children’s Shelter in Lawrence, KS, for many years by dedicating time and resources to the Shelter’s annual Festival of Trees event.

The mission of The Children's Shelter is to improve the lives of children and families, with a focus on youth at-risk in Douglas County and northeast Kansas. The nonprofit social service agency provides a variety of services designed to strengthen families and children who are experiencing major changes.

One of the Shelter’s primary fundraisers is the Lawrence Festival of Trees. For more than 30 years, families, businesses, and clubs donate themed Christmas trees and holiday decor displayed for the community to enjoy throughout the week.

P1 is proud to have supported the Shelter and this event for two of its three decades.

“P1 has always prioritized the support of our communities,” P1 CEO Smitty Belcher said. “As a Lawrence family, we are committed to helping The Children’s Shelter survive. A community’s ability to help at-risk youth ranks among its most important assets.”

P1 has not only been an event sponsor, but also sends some of our associates each year to bid on items. Raffle tickets are then sold to P1 associates for the items won, and the proceeds are donated back to the Children’s Shelter.

Even with a safely distanced event in 2020 (virtual silent and live-streamed auction), P1 was able to bid on items and hold the traditional raffle.

Congratulations to Fleet Manager Tosha Nazarenko and Senior Estimator Joe Camren on winning the 2020 raffle. Tosha took home a bottle cap art truck sign and $25 gift card to Mass Street Soda in Lawrence, and Joe won a 50 x 66-inch reversible Christmas quilt.
