P1 Group is committed to nurturing the professional talent of tomorrow. Helping promising students fill the pipeline of professionals that will one day work in our industry is an integral part of our sustainability.
That’s why P1 created the Construction Science Scholarship, awarded each year to a promising student in the Kansas State University Construction Science program.
This year’s recipient is K-State junior Casey Cheek, a native of McPherson, Kan.
“I have always had a love for building things and the process of how things are put together. Actually seeing a finished project is one of the most rewarding things,” Cheek said. “After college I hope to become a project manager for a construction company in the Midwest.”
According to P1 Group President Kollin Knox, P1 originally made a gift to the KSU Foundation in 2008, and began awarding the scholarship the following year.

P1 Group has a long-standing relationship with K-State’s Architectural Engineering and Construction Science & Management departments and numerous K-State graduates working at the company.
“We wanted to give back in a way that benefits the students who are interested in pursuing a career in the mechanical and electrical contracting industry,” Knox said.
“Scholarships like these are very important in that they not only help the student financially, but also show there are people who truly care about students and the future of the construction industry,” Cheek said. “This scholarship helped me with the financial aspect of my college education and inspires me to one day give back to students who pursue careers in the construction field.”
