Ok, let’s just address the elephant in the room.

What is Irish road bowling? If you read the March issue of the P1 Connection newsletter, you may have caught the term in the Associate Profile on Senior Project Manager Zack Kittle.

Zach participates in Irish Road Bowling as a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Father Donnelly Division. And this year, that organization won one of the Spring Corporate Sponsorship awards.

“Irish road bowling is our largest fundraiser, done twice a year in the spring and fall,” Zach explained.

Road bowling entails competitors taking the fewest throws possible to propel a metal ball (bullet) along a predetermined course of country roads.

“The tournaments are very meaningful to me, as they benefit two Kansas City causes: SAFE (Surviving Spouse and Family Endowment fund for first responders), and the Duchesne Clinic, a primary care facility for low-income residents of Wyandotte County.”

If only we could bring our next winner’s group to serenade the road bowlers.

Wichita Service Tradesman Mansfield Tittle earned the award for the Wichita Heights High School Marching Band, where his daughter is a musician (pictured, above/right).

“The award means a lot for these kids because it will help us attain our goals to be successful next year,” Mansfield said.

Mansfield explained in his application that although the program is part of the school district, funds are not necessarily available every year.

“This will help us purchase new music, or go towards buying equipment for the band,” Mansfield added.

“Music is expensive, but to be able to give these kids opportunities to perform for their peers, parents, and school is priceless. Along with traveling expenses, the funds will to go toward representing our school at various marching competitions.”

Congratulations to both our winners! Stay tuned for information about opportunities to submit for the next Corporate Sponsorship Award.
