P1 Group wins electrical project at KU Med energy center

KANSAS CITY, Kan.  – P1 Group, Inc. is proud to announce it has won the electrical portion of Phase 2 of the Applegate Energy Center Infrastructure Upgrade located at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan. P1 will remove three generators to make room for a new double ended unit substation to power the emergency loads in the energy center.  The project also involves new electrical distribution to an existing chiller. 

The work will commence November 23, 2009 and be completed by May 2010.  

Scope of Work

  • Remove three 1500 KW emergency generators and existing emergency switchgear
  • Set a new emergency unit substation and provide 15 KV circuits to substation
  • Provide three new motor control centers and re-feed existing loads
  • Provide connection to a new fire pump
  • Set a new unit substation and provide power to Chiller #1 and associated equipment

The University of Kansas Medical Center is comprised of The School of Medicine, School of Nursing and School of Allied Health. It has almost 3,000 students and treats over 19,000 patients per year.
