P1 Group to renovate mechanical systems at former hospital

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. – P1 Group, Inc. is pleased to announce it will provide mechanical construction solutions for the renovation of the former Independence Regional Health Center. Vacant for the past three years, the Independence School District has purchased the facility and plans to use portions of it for office space. P1 Group’s task is to bring the mechanical systems back to life.

 The project is scheduled to be completed at the end of October.

 Scope of Work

  • Demolish two existing steam absorption chillers, associated piping, pumps as well as steam heat exchangers and steam and condensate piping in the basement mechanical room 
  • Install three new condensing boilers and pumps and piping to provide heating to the facility
  • Connect the new piping to the existing piping 
  • Install a new air cooled chiller to provide cooling for a portion of the facility
  • Make modifications to seven air handling units (removing steam heating coils, new belts, new filters)

Onsite management will include pipefitter foreman Ron Peek and plumber foreman Bernie Miller. 

The Independence School District provides educational services to approximately 14,000 students. The district has received “Distinction in Performance” accreditation from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education for 2006, 2007 and 2008.
