P1 Group offers free computer training to its associates

In effort to help its associates achieve greater professional and personal satisfaction, P1 Group recently began offering free online computer training to any interested associate. One of the company’s visions is to provide its associates with career-long learning opportunities. To further extend that commitment, P1 Group purchased a multiuser subscription to Lynda.com, a video-based computer training website that offers more than 600 courses.

Ted Davis, P1 Group Vice President of People and Performance Development, chose Lynda.com because of the visual and audio quality, the expertise of the instructors, the large and diverse list of course offerings and the convenience that comes with being self-paced.

Many associates have begun courses in everyday programs such as Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook as means to become more efficient in their jobs and gain a competitive advantage. Patty Maulorico, Topeka Customer Service Representative, described the site as being very informative and similar to a tutorial.

“I’ve learned some shortcuts that I didn’t know before and can be used throughout Microsoft Office …in Word, Excel, etc.,” Maulorico said of her experience taking a Microsoft Publisher course.

Sarah Garcia, P1 Group Corporate Trainer, said she enrolled in a Microsoft Word course to increase her proficiency and make her documents look more professional. In addition to learning shortcuts, she’s hoping to make better use of templates to cut down on her workload.

“Word has a lot of templates, but I haven’t fully figured them out yet, especially when it comes to customizing them,” Garcia said. “I know I haven’t been using Word or Excel to its potential, but I feel like Lynda.com is helping me get there.”

Garcia was also impressed with the quality of training videos. She said the topics were extremely useful and that the instructors spoke clearly. She also liked how the practice files and exercises made it easy to follow.

One of Lynda.com’s benefits is that it also offers courses in more technical programs such as AutoCAD and Adobe Creative Suite.

“We understand people have a variety of needs, and we hope this offering gives associates the opportunity to truly excel in their careers,” Davis said.
