P1 Group associates drive efforts to support local charities

Cheri Totta, P1 Group safety coordinator, presents Sergeant Christopher A. Torres of 24th Marine Regiment with toys that P1 Group associates donated. The toys will be given to Toys for Tots, one of several charities P1 Group associates recently assisted.

P1 Group associates recently helped out with some great causes. Here’s a brief recap:

Toys for Tots

Toys for Tots is a program that donates toys to children whose parents cannot afford to buy them gifts for Christmas. For two weeks, P1 Group set up collection boxes in multiple offices. P1 Group associates brought in so many new toys that many of the boxes ended up overflowing. Associates donated items ranging from board games to dolls to toy cars.

The event was highlighted by a visit from a U.S. Marine. Sergeant Christopher A. Torres of the 24th Marine Regiment came to P1 Group to pick up the much appreciated toys.

Harvesters

Harvesters is a community food network that serves Greater Kansas City. In any given week, the organization provides emergency food assistance to nearly 60,000 people. Similar to Toys for Tots, P1 Group set up collection bins for associates to bring in food and personal health items. The response was overwhelming; P1 associates loaded the bins with canned goods, boxed meals, cereal and other needed items.

Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation

On October 13, P1 Group Las Vegas associates volunteered to assist in the annual Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation (NCCF) toy run.  Every year the NCCF asks for toy donations to be brought to the famous Hogs and Heifers Saloon, a famous bar on Fremont Street that draws a lot of bikers. From there the toys are transported, and everyone with a motorcycle rides in a group to Sunrise Hospital to have Santa give the toys directly to the children in the cancer center who will not be home celebrating Christmas.  The kids not only receive the toys, but it’s quite an entertaining spectacle for them to see Santa riding in on a Harley with over 100 other motorcycles following his lead. In all, approximately 200 children being treated in the Sunrise cancer center received a toy from Santa.

P1 Group helps transport over 60 bicycles to Sunrise Hospital to be given to youth cancer patients.
